Here it is, another few days. We recently finished a heat spell. Yesterday at 2:00 PM it was 100 degrees. I had to water the cantaloupes, cucumbers and tomatoes an extra time in the afternoon.
I ate the first tomato from the garden on Tuesday. I made two sandwiches for lunch, the best I've had in a long time. I picked a second tomato yesterday. It might be lunch on Friday.
There is an eggplant that is about three inches from top to bottom. The Fordhook lima beans are in bloom. There are a couple of cantaloupes that are about six inches long. Some of the hot peppers are starting to turn red. We have some baby cucumbers now. The yellow bell pepper plants have a number of peppers. Some of them are two to three inches. The herbs are all running wild. The garlic is doing fine. The onions are slow, and the leeks aren't doing well at all. I'll have to start them earlier next year. The hummingbird vines are starting to climb the pyramid trellis. One of the orange butterfly weeds has a seed case that I'll have to keep an eye on so we don't have a weed epidemic. The yellow hibiscus had a wide open bloom today. The other plant will bloom soon. The orange hibiscus had died down, but has new sprouts. It will be a while before it gets big enough again to bloom.
Over all, things are going great in the garden. I think I'll build some more boxes in the fall or winter.
